The Human Stain (2003)

TheHumanStainWhy did I like “The Human Stain” so much? Because it speaks of so many important things with a direct and indirect way at the same time. About things one is born with and can do nothing to change, the decisions made because of them, friendship, the desire to live and enjoy life, the realization of what is important and what is not, the measure of sorrow, a caress that was intended but was not given, a hug that means different things for two people who care for each other…

Well, it is based on a book with the same title and despite the fact that I have not read the book, Robert Benton made an amazing movie played by an amazing cast. This is not a film to be missed.

Kill Your Darlings (2013)

killYourDarlings An attempt to think, relate to others and act without limits. An effort to challenge the status-quo, to pave a new path, no matter what the cost.

Tabu (2012)

tabuTabu of Miguel Gomes is a peculiar, unique movie. It is like two almost unconnected movies bind together, a short and a long story. Both talking about people: their differences and similarities, the ghosts haunting them. It is filmed in black and white (in 2012!). The director presents some scenes where one may here all nature sounds but not the people talking in the scene, as if this is of no importance to the plot. And yes, the eyes, the posture of the actor’s bodies, their attitude, shows more than the irrelevant verbal exchange they would have in that scene. The true story is narrated in the second part and this at times may be tiring but there are moments when it becomes very intense. Although a love story is hot a million times in the cinema, its presentation here has originality.

Revolver (2005)

Revolver is a no ordinary thriller. It has a story that reveals itself, little by little, one step being more clever than the other. It is a crossword for very strong solvers. One thing is for sure: if you like riddles, you will enjoy it fully.
